Breutelia pendula

Family: Bartramiaceae

Breutelia pendula is a robust moss with red-brown stems with abundant brown rhizoids that form a dense tomentum.  The greenish-yellow leaves are glossy with longitudinal folds and taper to a fine point. The stems of male plants form conspicuous reddish discs with sperm-containing antheridia at their tips.
Widespread in New Zealand in damp sites but also able to withstand prolonged dry periods.
