Notogrammitis patagonica

Family: Polypodiaceae

Notogrammitis patagonica has a long -creeping stem (rhizome) bearing linear fronds that have a distinct stalk (stipe). Both frond blade and stalk are are covered in long, coarse hairs.
Found throughout New Zealand mostly in mountain regions on rock faces or occasionally on the ground.
Formerly known as Grammitis patagonica.

Fertile frond and sporangia

Plant form: erect stem bearing fronds up to 15 cm

Frond appearance: similar to sterile frond

Frond stalk, midrib: stipe with numerous dark red-brown hairs

Sporangium location: lower frond surface

Frond shape: linear to spoon-shaped

Sporangium position: in one row either side of midrib

Frond blade: undivided

Sporangia distribution: in groups (sori)

Frond surface: slightly leathery, dark  red-brown hairs

Sorus shape: elongated with hairs

Leaflets: 0

Sorus covering: 0
