Fissidens asplenioides has stems up to 3 cm long, and have 30-40 pairs of overlapping leaves that roll inward from the tip as they dry. Leaves have a narrow-lanceolate shape, smooth margins that lack a border and a nerve that fails just before the obtuse leaf tip. Leaves have the structure typical for the genus Fissidens: a lower folded (double) portion and a dorsal wing.
Widespread in New Zealand on rock and soil in damp sites.
