Zygodon menziesii forms stems up to 10 mm tall, the leaf margins are often recurved below, the surface cells are smooth and the vein (nerve) fails shortly before the leaf apex. when moist. When dry, leaves are not strongly twisted and often curve to one side of the stem. The sporophyte stalk (seta) is 2-8 mm long and bears an 8-ribbed cylindrical capsule. A double peristome is well developed consisting of both inner and outer teeth.
Widespread in New Zealand on bark and rock.
