Racopilum strumiferum is similar to Racopilum cuspidigerum var. convolutaceum except that the capsule stalk (seta) is stouter, the calyptra covering is distinctly hairy and the capsule is swollen at the base (strumose).
Widespread in New Zealand in open forest on rotting wood, bark, soil and rock.
