Sematophyllum jolliffii has forms mats of branching stems. The leaves not curved, have a broadly pointed tip and are crowded and overlapping at the stem tip but tend to be more spread out in older areas of stems. The capsule stalk (seta) has numerous papillae where it joins the capsule, but is smooth lower down.
Found in the upper half of the North Island on emergent rocks in streams.
